| Emo boys and gals have always tried to look unique, their dress and accessories being the most significant feature for standing out in the crowd. Striving to look different from the rest of society, emo people shun conformism. This article offers few basic tips on how to dress emo. Nevertheless, one should not forget that dressing emo just because it helps you look cool is a bad idea. Dress should stress your personality. The most distinguishing feature of true emo look is the Emo coiffure, which normally is straightened coloured hair (commonly black, but it can also be blond, dark brown, purple etc.) frequently combined with vivid colors (vibrant pink, green, blue or red), a long fringe brushed to one side of the face or over one or both eyes. Bob-cuts, assymetry and hair short in the back and long in the front are considered to be very emo too. The most crucial thing is to make your hair look expressive. Super girlish hair bands, bandannas, ribbons add to emo look as well. Black horn-rimmed glasses, normally very thick, are also a distinctive feature of emo style. Emo gals, nevertheless, can enjoy different colors and go for darker shades of red, brown or blue. The key term to copying emo style is "slim fitted". Emo clothing is often characterized by skin tight emo jeans (drainpipes or skinnies) on males and girls alike. Jeans are worn with a double belt. One belt is usually of usual design and the other one is decorated with clinchers and iron strips. Studs on the belts and large belt buckles are also very common. Dresses and skirts can be worn by gals if properly matched with converses and leg warmers. Narrow emo t-shirts frequently have the name of rock bands or very common self-deprecating designs such as the bleeding heart, stars and the skull. Vintage or vintage-looking shirts with icons of animated heroes or rock musicians are also very very common. The key here is originality, or at least the illusion of it. Again, the t-shirt or a sweater should be very very tight, up to 2 sizes smaller. For looking emo, black eye liner and other dark make-up are crucial. Keep in mind, there is never too little black eye liner, shades, and black mascara. A little brightly coloured eyeliner can also be applied together with the black eyeliner. Emo shoes image complete. The most common emo shoes are Converses or Vans. But many other shoes, as long as they are black with pink laces, can also be made look emo. The most popular choice is tennis footwear of conversion or avant-garde style. To look more emo, shoes can be decorated with white-out pen/highlighter/permanent marker. Pursuing the emo look, make sure you are not pretending to be someone you are not. It can be an insult for devoted emo people. |
