D-Style Logs for Log Homes

Some log home builders use authentic D-Style Logs for Log Kits, Manufactured Log Homes, Log Cabins, and Log Cabin Packages. This style of log is rounded on the exterior side of the log giving you the real log appearance.

The interior side of the log features a flat surface with a chamfer at the top and bottom of the log. The flat interior finish gives you the tongue and groove appearance on the interior.

The flat interior makes hanging pictures, decorations, shelves, cabinets, ect. much easier.

Building Flexibility

Not only do D-Style logs provide you with an amazing log home look, they offer many real advantages during log home construction. The unique oly screws used during the stacking process are self tapping.

This self tapping screw means no pre-drilling is required, and if a mistake is made you can simply back the oly screw out and make your correction. This flexibility during construction saves you time, money, and peace of mind.

The D-Style log profile creates a full weight-bearing between each log, running the entire length and exactly matching the profile of the log below. This produces weight-bearing the full length of the log, not just the ends.

The butt-n-pass corners tie your walls together giving you amazing shear strength in the walls, and that means greater strength and stability in you structure as a whole.

The D-Style log structure surpasses the strength of a standard stick framed wall by more then 20%.

Log Home Energy-Efficiency

Log homes have an advantage when it come to energy-efficiency, they use both the solid wood as an insulator to give it some R-Value and a log uses thermal mass. In a solid 7 inch log wall it might be indicated as a steady-state R-Value of R-9.

In a stick framed home you may have an R13 (or even R-15 in some areas), but because of the thermal mass of a log home it will out perform the stick frame home by 2.5% to over 15% more energy efficient.
