The natural and beautiful scenery of Israel provides opportunities for hikers to make a hike trail in Israel. Israel’s diverse landscapes also attract hikers to make a trip here. A beautiful trail throughout the year, Hiking in the Israel takes you past wildflowers, streams, and waterfalls. In Israel you can see prehistoric dolmens and Stone Age tombs. In Judea and Jerusalem the autumn colors make an invitation to visit American Independence Park, Adullam Park, and Nahal Refaim. During the trail a hiker can see archeological sites, and olives waiting to be harvested. He will be amazed by viewing the beautiful scenery. Adullam Park covers some 50,000 dunams (12,500 acres) among Givat Yishayahu, Tzafririm, and Nehushah, is an excellent place to visit. Everywhere you look you can see hills covered in Mediterranean underbrush, separated by narrow valleys used mainly for growing grapes for wine. Archeological sites and caves lie hidden on almost every hill.
The Israel National Trail (INT) crosses archeological sites, historic places, and unique landscapes while it zigzags its way from the Lebanon’s Northern boarder to the Red Sea through the Sea of Galilee, Haifa, Nazareth, Tel Aviv, Jerusalem and the Negev (the Israeli desert).
The Israel National Trail (INT) is of 940 KM of marked trail. The trail ranges from rivers in the north to the dryness and emptiness of the Negev in the south, to the ancient and holy city of Jerusalem and to modern and busy Tel Aviv. One of the most famous hiking centers is the American Independence Park. This information center includes a permanent exhibition with explanations about the hikes and vacation getaways available in the area. American Independence Park covers some 4,000 dunams (1,000 acres), and offers an interesting combination of springs, agriculture, and archeology.
A parking lot is present near the American Independence Park from where a hiker can go on a hike on the ‘’Caesar’s Path,’’ which goes along an ancient, reconstructed olive press. Further he can go down a footpath (marked in black) to Ein Mata and Ein Tanur, which will take about 20 minutes at a comfortable pace. He can also reach the springs in a car if the lower gate of Moshav Mata is open
Best time to Hike Trail
The good seasons for hiking in Israel are during October till mid may. During this season you can expect rain in the Northern part of the trail. A tent or tarp and raingear would be good to have for such a kind of climate. Trail Markers - The trails are marked all the way in orange, blue and white. The "up" color points the direction. White up it's north, Orange up south so it is practically difficult to get lost
Places where you can resupply – The trail passes through village, town, kibbutz that has a grocery store so the hiker need not need to carry more than five day’s worth of food. Hiking Gear – Some hiking gear that I would recommend you to bring would be a map, compass, matches ,fire starter, knife, flashlight, extra food/water, extraclothing(depending on the season), first aid kit, sunglasses, good shoes or boots good socks, or two pair of socks, Hat, Bandana, Insect repellent, Watch
Where to start & where to go?
Hiking North to South
a. Hiking the Northern part is easier since it gives the body a better chance to get in shape, acclimatize and adjust to the trial life. The Hiker can carry less amount of water during the hike.
b. During the months of march and April (i.e. during spring) one can hike in a green landscape for the first half but if hiked in the opposite direction, one could reach the north easily after mid-April, missing most of the flowers
c. Eilat is a town where a hiker can see many resorts and luxury hotels. Hikers can relax in the hotels
d. In the Northern part there are more villages and kibbutzes with more resupply possibilities. During their first trial many hikers would have made mistakes with their food, water and gear. They can rectify their mistakes on the Northern part of the trail. During the desert trial important lessons on water and food quantities and gear should have been learned.
e. Rainy season in the north is during March and April. So it can cause more delays
Hiking South to North
a. One should hike the desert section before it gets too hot. Hiking the desert in May is associated with more very hot days when one must stop the day's hike at about 10:00 and continue hiking in the afternoon, when tempratures drop.
b .After heavy rain desert floods occur which is beautiful to see but they are dangerous. Usually in deserts floods are not frequent.
